Abstract | The aim of this paper is to introduce for the first time a photographic dossier of dies of Manuel II Palaeologus’ half stavrata minted at Constantinople between 1394/5 and 1425. This important dossier was originally collected by Simon Bendall, who was unable to complete his study and to put it into the public domain. Examination of this material has made it possible to identify the dies used in the dossier, which combines two varieties of half-stavrata with different die characteristics and to establish a chain of die-links. Moreover, this paper shows the contribution of the sigla to the arrangement of the half-stavrata in sequence by die-linking. |
