Abstract | The aim of this paper is to present a 108 Byzantine coin collection, brought to the National History Museum by a collector claiming that the coins were found in Dobroudja. The structure of the collection fits the pattern observed in the numerous fortresses of the province where a significant number of early Byzantine coins were found during the archaeological excavations and surveys. The chronological sequence of dated copper issues, as well as the proportion of mints and denominations, are characteristic for the Lower Danubian milieu, fact which lead to the conclusion that the coins described in the catalogue were found mostly if not all on the territory of the former province of Scythia. |
