Excerpt The article explores the problematic of the metal composition of the Hungarian gold coins issued during the reign of the Angevine kings: Charles Robert, Louis I and Mary. Comparing the results of the XRF investigations performed on some gold coins from the Coin Room of the Hungarian National Museum with some contemporary written sources, the author tries to identify the real precious metal quality of the coins, having in mind the idea that the Hungarian florin was considered to be one of the most trustworthy gold coins during those times.
